Title: Race Wednesday July 13th
Post by: FRONTI3R on July 10, 2016, 10:05:36 PM
We had our very first full race evening last week.  Three qualifiers and racing was done by 9:30pm.  New track record was set of 21.5 seconds. Then Chris Gruver broke the record again at Friday's practice... 21.4.  Who's going to beat that?

Who's in for Wednesday?

Buggies for me however I'm going to get my 4wd SC ready since there was a lot of interest after seeing John's slash with sounds doing laps between heats. It does sound fast.  :D bring out those SC's!

PS.  If you can't make it Wednesday, we have our first weekend race this Sunday July 17th.  Hope you can make it  http://www.rcottawa.com/forum/index.php?topic=19505.0 (http://www.rcottawa.com/forum/index.php?topic=19505.0)

Good choice Joel.

Last week I was away on Vacation and came back to a really dry track.   The issue with being dry is that the track crumbles.   >:(  We had a jump that broke apart, it caused some people to crash on that double during the main.   :-[
I fixed that issue and touched up a couple other spots on Thursday and it held together for practice on Friday.   :)

I've been keeping the track watered at night.  Going to tarp some sections after watering tonight.  Should be good after I water tomorrow when I get home from work.

Also I have been working on improving the lighting on the track by adding a couple more.   I've also moved some extension cords to other circuits and learned quickly that I have all kinds of different Amperage fuse breakers at my house.  Fun.   Ideally I should get an electrician in to add a new outlet to my pool shed so that we no longer have to run super long extension cords.

I'm going to try to be home for 4pm to water, track should be ready for 5pm practice.

Dont bump anything past 15amps.. Thats what all your circuits should be at..

Hey Shawn, check the wattage of your lights. You should be able to run 6 X 250 watt lights off one 15 amp "empty" circuit, or 3 X 500 watt lights. Check the bulb themselves not just the sticker on the light, just in case they were changed.
We installed 2 new 20 amp circuits in the shop and are running 4 X 500 watt lights off each circuit with no problem. That's what our on staff (my dad)  electrician did...lol!!

Those lights I got ya are 500 watts a piece. On a 15 amp breaker your only going to get 3 per circuit.
At SAR when we had those lights we were connect 4 to some and 5 to others but we had 20 and 25 amp breakers installed to operate those lights.

So if you get 2 25amp circuits setup out by the pool you would be good for a good portion of the lights. However those breakers are $100.00+ a pop :( ... We shoulda taken them out of the hangar when we left LOL

I was blowing the breaker for the family room (30amp) and the kitchen one (30amp) when I had too many lights or when the WC Lift was used.  These outdoor plugs are my only options at the back of the house.  More cords were used to move them to the side of the house and I quickly learned it's only a 15amp breaker and I can only run one cord there... so that will be the plug used for the WC lift.

I will try to get the most lights working as possible.

KEEP in mind
The goal for GFX Raceway this summer was to keep Wednesday Racing running for everyone (mainly because I'm miserable when I don't get my weekly RC fix).  So that's why I opened the track up to everyone and only charging $10 to cover the electricity bill and some costs to keep the track maintained.

If I have to get an electrician in... or buy extension cords... then Race fees will need to go up. :'(

+1 Shawn ...

And from someone who knows ... rates are too low even at 20 and 5 and 10 for practice much less 10 for a race night.

We started with a wet, slick track, then it dried throughout the night into a tacky track and it was a lot of fun.  I had only 2 minutes of talent for a 5 minute main, ahh well.  See ya Friday night for practice.

The track was fast and sticky. Had a great night  with a fast lap of 21.1 in eight scale.
