Shorty for 2wd + weight?
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:49:57 PM »
So I think I finally tracked down the issue with my 2wd spontaneously shutting down.  After last Sunday my saddle pack was full charge since the 2wd drive just kept cutting out.  When I hooked it up to the charger for storage one of the cells showed about 4.15 V but the other went from 4.15V down to 3.2 in seconds and then the charger stopped and indicated storage was complete.  Our Skyrc S60 charger has an IR mode so I hooked it up and one cell was reading 10 (which I understand is still ok) but the other cell was reading 40!  I understand that anything above 20/25 per cell is garbage time !  I think the battery is done and that's the cause for the cutouts under load.

Anyway, I have a new SMC shorty coming on Monday (opted for the shorty vs square/saddle).  The dead saddle pack was 272g and the new shorty is 210g so I dropped about 60g.  I have 63g (9 x 7g) of stick on weights in 7g increments that could easily be placed anywhere.

Question: should I be adding some weight when using a shorty at GFX in 2wd B5?  If so where?

Thanks!

Try it without. Then put 21g in the back and see if you like it.

I run a shorty in my b5.

Had you asked me I would have said to buy the square pack!  But yes, I would add the weight back with lead, or even better, a brass plate.  GH sells brass sheets in 1/8" and with a hack saw and some patience, you can cut a piece the size of a square pack and get back some grams.

Well I put a shorty in the 2wd today and ran it for 15 mins with no issues.  Seems I have a functioning 2wd again  8)

Thanks for the suggestions for the weight!

Glad you found the problem.  Try your buggy without the weight and add in small amounts to see if you like it more.
