Tire life when not in use
« on: July 05, 2017, 10:56:21 AM »
Do RC car tires have a shelf life? I know real car tires do, but what about RC buggy tires?

Two scenario :
1) I have new in package tires that have been in my basement for 5 years

2) I have mounted tires stored in a plastic container for 5 years

Do these degrade or can I expect the same performance after they age?

I've heard that as long as they are kept in their bags, sealed, and in a cool and dark place, they can last a long time.  If you're only racing locally, and we haven't any high grip type tracks, ya, old tires are still good.  If I was going to a big race I'd buy a fresh set  ;)

Definitely tres stored in plastic containers don't give much extended life they aren't fully air tight.  Zip lock bags or tire bags are always the best bet
