DT new winter season
« on: September 04, 2017, 09:44:35 AM »
What's up. Summer is drawing to a close.  I've been looking forward to hitting some turf.  Maybe I'm asking to early.  Any plans as of yet?

Ya I'd love a place to race as well this winter, but it goes without saying, whatever it is and no matter where it is, it'd have to be better supported than it was last winter if you want to convince the DT gang to do it again.  Wednesday nights were hit or miss in regards to attendance and Friday nights were hardly worth the organizers time to be nice about it.

I'll always support DT.. But as D mentions last winter was a disappointment.. I mean it was great fun. But not the numbers required to pay the rent..

I'd be surprised to see 30/40 difference people chime in on this thread...

Love to be proven wrong..

Since the thread has been started:

Who would commit to a Wednesday night Asto turf race series? Regardless of track size? (Meaning you would make the best of any situation)

It's always nice to ask, online commitments are always "100% fer sure I'll be there", but the real proof will be in actual bodies on race night. ::) ;) ;D

I'd try to make it as much as possible. I did well only the last 6 races last year hehe. Loved the track last year.... hope it happens.

One option may be to take deposits that are only refundable if the DT gang do not find a place to open this winter.  Actual monetary commitment speaks louder than keyboard commitment. This combined with a monthly membership rather than weekly race fees would help with cash flow and provide more incentive for racers to show up each week. You could still offer weekly race fees but at a much higher price.

We used the monthly membership model when we ran the Slot Car club in back of Dynamic Hobbies.  It helped us mange cash flow and expenses, helped keep members coming out as it was paid in advance and also helped us determine when it was time to give it up, as revenue commitments didn't cover rent and other costs.

This may not be what some of you want to hear, but cash in hand and firm commitments, beats words typed on a computer screen that amount to Cyber support only.

That is my 2 cents worth for today.
Cheers
Dan

I can't commit to anything, between the distance and my new found combat robot addiction, but it would certainly be nice to have the option this winter. That said having that option costs money and last winter was a rather poor turnout at best and putting all the time, effort and favors into doing it again can't be justified to keep that turnout I'm sure. If the turnout was double for all we know we could still be at that location.
