Personal Transponders!!! All racers please read!
« on: January 07, 2011, 12:02:10 PM »
Hey guys as of March 1st Dirt Dirt will require all racers to have a Personal Transponder in thier car.
I think this gives guys plenty of time to order them in and the LHS to get them in for you.
I know DH is brining in like 10 in thier next order!  Go see them!!

Cheers

Not that I'm an offroad guy, but why?  Wouldn't this tend to discourage new racers?

that's what I was thinking too.  Spending $80-$100 each PT isn't cheap.  I have two vehicles so therer goes $160-$200.

I wanted to get one each for my vehicles down the road anyways since I've been having missed laps with the house transponders.
Maybe keep the good house transponders for the new guys that will join after March?

i know, it can be expensive to start but once you have them they should be good for a long long time.

I see that the same as getting a 2.4 remote.  expensive at first but last forever for a long time

I think the current set of transponders are starting to loose there cells(aka they aint lipo;s in there) So there are issue of low hit counts that could cause missed laps.... I know that Dynamic had sent out there system to get all new batteries installed a few years back but it was a big expense for them to do..

Out of a system of 20 house transponders how many still work properly mike?

Wild questions, but how much to get a newer rack of brand new transponders?
Or how about doing some kind of incentive for new racers?

We used to be a Non for profit club. The club and the administration probably dealt with it a long time ago.

I think it's a GREAT idea. Some ouside races you need one anyway so why not ?
Also as mentioned here, you buy expensive car, expensive radios, why not a 50-100$ expense for stuff that will save you time and angry eyes from other forgetting to pick up or return house transponders ?
Rctech has plenty used, DH will have plenty NIB, go grab one, 2 or 3... one for each car... don't we already have one tx per car already ?

They are discontinued

If those (racks) are discontinued, then buy a PTx. The only thing I could see is the LHS offering an incentive.

Well, if the batteries are dying I could see it making sense.

You guys that say "what's another $100", for the NEW racer it's a lot.  For the guys that've been doing it for a while and have already spent the cash, it's probably not too big a deal.  For the guy that's starting from scratch, and isn't even sure they're going to like racing the extra $100 on the $200-$300 bill for getting started isn't trivial.

How about having one or two club owned personal transponders for the brand spankey new guys that are there just for a week or two to try it out?

I also noticed that you said "dirt dirt will require...", assuming that only means the dirt guys, what about the transponders we've been using at lakeside?  Since we're merging with you dirt guys anyway, shouldn't be too big a problem right?  Unless we're planning to do the same for the onroad guys too?

Last idea.  If you're just going to scrap the house transponders anyway (don't know if you are or not), then why not give replacing the batteries yourself a whack?  Rather than sending them out?  Worst comes to worse, you break the transponder, and you're not out anything yeah?

Just thinking out loud here.
